Hadestown maakt dit jaar kans op de meeste Tony Awards, de musical heeft maar liefst 14 nominaties. Na Hadestown volgt Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations met 12 nominaties en als derde de musical Tootsie met 11 nominaties.
Zowel Hadestown, Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of the Temptations en Tootsie zijn genomineerd in de categorie beste musical samen met The Prom en Beetlejuice.
De Tony Awards worden uitgereikt op zondag 9 juni. Het is de 73ste keer dat de prijzen zullen worden uitgereikt en net als afgelopen jaar zal dit gebeuren in de Radio City Music Hall in New York. De presentatie is in handen van James Corden.
