John Legend zal de hoofdrol gaan vertolken in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert! van NBC. De zanger voegt zich zodoende bij Alice Cooper die eerder al werd aangekondigd, de rockzanger en muzikant zal de rol van King Herod op zich gaan nemen. De rest van de cast zal op een later moment bekend worden gemaakt.

Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert! zal volgend jaar op Eerste Paasdag (1 april) live worden opgevoerd in Williamsburg, een wijk in het noorden van Brooklyn.
Afgelopen december maakte NBC nog Hairspray Live! en in de jaren daarvoor produceerde de zender The Wiz Live!, Peter Pan Live! en The Sound of Music Live!.
